The first known civilization on Earth; The Sumerians
.. Iraq 7000 years ago (5000 BC) ..
became civilized and succesfull..
due to their craftsmanship
and how to make small boats
of plaited reeds covered with animal-skin

Sumerians could sail from one riverbank of the river Tigris.. to the other
.. up or down the Euphrates.. and thus..
communicate with neighbouring settlements..
This lead to the creation of the first great cities
or socalled city-states..
and ancient Sumerian Indiana Jones artifacts

Instead of reed boats and dead animals
we have been creating software
that can connects us all... in a rather unique and special way.. namely;
.. irregardless of place (geographics) and language (demographics) ^^
.. unlike anything that is done sofar in the "internet-lake"
it is.. "out of the lake!" ^^

Tourboat

Internet is still kinda-like a lake nowadays..
and you need to fish for websites..
your not realy surfing the web... ur fishing it ! ^^
using a lepricon searchengine (ye-ye.. leprechaun) ^^
in dutch we say: "tuinkabouter" ^^ or "rare tuinkabouter"
.. and the fish.. keep scouting the lake for new fishfloats..
and swim back with collected data
to update the index of the lepricon..
(fiddle around in the archive for more clues about this.. if ur interested)

Nowadays the configuration of internet
can be compared... metaphorically
to a worldwide telephone network
but.. without a telephonebook...
thus without a intrinsic connection...
the only connections are links between websites
.. and searchengines

many (not all) telephonenumbers and email adresses
are written on fish-floats
and tossed (ftp-upload) into the lake..
there is simply not a single worldwide directory

Dirk

.. if you look at a telephonebook... than you notice
that it has an "Index" (content-page) at the start of the book..
.. unless your dog ate it.. ^^

A "book-index" is subdivided into "categories" or "chapters"
... a book-index makes it possible to see (in one glance);
on what page you can find such-and-such chapter
.. common knowledge

well now ! .. book-chapters can also be subdivided into paragraphs...
.. each chapter is subdivided
and could therefor have it's own index or "sub-index"
where it would describe the "paragraphs" within the "chapter"
maybe 'too complicated' ... go on ! ... you can do it ! ^^

A worldwide telephonebook works/means the same in all countries
to make one.. you would have to collect
than translate the telephonebooks
that come from other countries
especially countries that use text characters (Chinese/Thai/Korean)

to create a worldwide telephonebook
you would have to make it in a digital format
(on Compact Disk or harddrive)
in paper format.. you would need a forklift
to lift it ! ^^

.. a worldwide telephonebook
would be put together; compressed, translated
and localized into a country-appropriate format...
(text/colours/layout)
and put on a DVD or CD-ROM... in a digital format

--- DATABASE ---

a database...
is a digital format to store data.. on a computer
a database basically looks like a MS Excell sheet
an Excell sheet is considered; a small size database
there are different types of databases..
depending on the amount of data that one needs to store
Excell (small) .. MySQL (average) ... SQL (bigger) ... Oracle (big) ..

a table has table-cells, vertical colomns and horizontal rows
a database consists of records (horizontal rows)
a record is a collection of variables
each record must have a unique identification number (Id)
otherwize you would end up with duplicate or redundant (double/too much) data

A database is a depository that simply stores/holds the data..
a webapplication is software that makes it possiblev to processes data (add/edit/delete) and generates information (query)
a webapplication collects data through queries (get or send thisnthat data)
using a web-browser (Explorer/Firefox)

certain data + certain data + certain data = information
10 players + 1 keeper + 4 spare players + 1 coach = a complete soccerteam

when you hear the word database... than think "table"

Dishwash

To make an worldwide telephonebook
you need a database and an application
the application makes it possible to fill up the database
or make changes to it...

To make an worldwide digital telephonebook
you would need to start with making an world-index first
of all the countries with their country-dialcodes
.. each country.. has it's own dedicated dialcode
that you must first dial
(+31 for the Netherlands)

After the first subdivision
you would than have to subdivide the countries
into regions, provinces, emirates, states, special area's..
... whatever applies..
(countries are not everywhere subdivided the same)

the subdivisons are subdivided again
into districts, municipalities, gmina's, barangays, arrondissements, ..
(country subdivisions are not everywhere subdivided the same)

the telephonenumbers and the translated country-index-text
essentially stay the same...
The Netherlands = Niederlande = Nederland = Pays Bas.. ^^
this is called semantics (meaning the same)

.. gotta run.. ^^

WELCOME
